Sometimes less is everything
Building a life that feels peaceful
S O U L F U L L E T T E R #7 - B Y C H R I S T I N A G R E V E

Lately I’ve been sitting with this thought; sometimes less is everything.
Not less in a lacking or empty way, but less in a nourishing and peaceful way. The kind peace that gently brings you back to yourself, and back to the present moment.
Because if you pause for a moment and really listen, the world feels incredibly loud right now.
We wake up to alarms.
We rush through the day.
We fill every empty space with chores, noise, and expectations.
Expectation to do more. Be more. Share more. Achieve more. Prove more.
It’s a constant buzz in the background of modern life. A subtle pressure that never quite turns off. And it’s easy to forget that stillness has value too.
And slowly, without noticing it, we lose our connection to the rhythm that once felt natural to us.
Yesterday I asked my Instagram followers this question:
What do you LOVE to do, but don't do enough of? Because you secretly think you SHOULD be doing more important things with your time?
I received surprisingly many answers. Reading, sewing, baking, crafting, cuddling, creating, gardening, and spending time in nature were the top ones.
It made me realise how often we under-prioritise the things we love because we think they are a waste of time.
BUT! They are not a waste of time.
If something makes you happy, it matters. If it brings you joy, it is often exactly what you need to cope with life, to feel alive and happy.
Those small moments of joy carry meaning. Sometimes even more meaning than all the striving.
The older I get, the more I realise that happiness is rarely found in the big successful moments we imagine.
It lives in quiet mornings before the world wakes up.
In planting seeds in the garden in spring.
In reading a good book while the afternoon light moves slowly across the room.
In a deep conversation that lingers long after the words are spoken.
In a long walk in nature.
In a warm cuddle with my dog.
In spending time with people who feel easy and uplifting to be around.
And maybe just as importantly…
In less screen time. Less noise. Less drama and less collecting stuff we don't need.
There is something calming about choosing less. Because peace often hides in the places we overlook while rushing toward something shinier, faster, louder.
I've been a collector all my life. I've worked hard so I could buy shiny things to impress people I didn't even know and to convince people from my past that I've "made it".
I grew up with emotionally unavailable adults. And I learned early that to get attention I had to over-perform, please, and be as perfect as possible. Somewhere along the way I began to believe that success equals love.
Until one day I stopped and asked myself a question:
Are you climbing the mountain so others can see you at the top, or are you climbing the mountain so you can see the world from the top?
And I realised something: I didn’t want to climb anymore!
I was tired of the fast lane. Tired of climbing. And honestly, exhausted from my own ambitions.
I know now that a simple life is not a sign of failure. It’s full.
Full of space to breathe. Full of room to think. Full of room to do the things I love. Full of the small, beautiful moments that make a life feel deeply lived.
When we move faster than our inner rhythm, life begins to feel heavy. When we push ourselves beyond our natural flow, we begin to feel exhausted.
So here is my little reminder for you today: You don’t have to keep up with the pace of the world. You are allowed to choose a slower rhythm. A life that feels softer and more simple.
When we stop trying to match the pace of everyone else, when we stop climbing to impress other people, we begin to rediscover a quieter and more peaceful way of living.

Today's Healing Reflections
(grab your journal and take notes for this)
To help you slow down and live with more intention here's a few questions to guide your choices in a new direction.
#1. What actually brings you joy in an ordinary day?
Not the big achievements. Not the things that look impressive from the outside. The simple things.
Maybe it is reading a book for an hour without checking your phone.
Maybe it is baking bread on a Sunday morning.
Maybe it is gardening, knitting, painting, writing, or taking photos just for the joy of it.
Those small moments are not trivial. They are clues to the life your nervous system and your heart long for.
#2. What parts of your life feel unnecessarily heavy?
Many of us carry more than we need.
Too many commitments and social activities.
Too many expectations and responsibilities.
Too many projects, goals and plans.
Sometimes a simpler life begins with letting something go. A project that drains you. A social obligation that feels forced. A schedule that leaves no room to breathe.
Less pressure often creates more space for what truly matters.
#3. What do you want more of in your life?
More quiet mornings.
More time outside.
More slow conversations.
More creative play.
More rest.
When you become clear about what you want more of, you can begin shaping your days around those things instead of squeezing them in as an afterthought.
#4. What would a slower rhythm look like for you?
Perhaps it means starting the day without immediately checking messages.
Perhaps it means taking a walk every afternoon just to clear your mind.
Perhaps it means protecting one evening each week for something that nourishes you. Reading. Journaling. Yoga. Creating.
A simple life does not mean doing nothing. It means doing the right things. The things that give you energy instead of constantly taking it away.
And slowly, step by step, you begin to build a life that feels lighter.
With kindness,
Christina
