How I prepare for 2026
S O U L F U L L E T T E R #2 - B Y C H R I S T I N A G R E V E

Can you believe how quickly the year flew by? It’s as though time accelerates with each passing year, nudging us to realize just how precious every single moment truly is.
Time is the one thing we can never reclaim, which makes it our most valuable treasure. And what better way to honor it than by intentionally shaping the year ahead?
As I sit here, pen in hand, setting my intentions for a mindful, joyful, and fulfilling year, I’m reminded of something important: before we can invite in the NEW, we must release the OLD.
Think of it like pruning a garden, you clear away the overgrowth to give your flowers and dreams room to bloom. That’s why one of the most meaningful ways to prepare for a new year is by cleansing, detoxing, and decluttering, not just our homes but also our hearts, minds, and schedules.
Letting go of what no longer serves us isn’t just practical; it’s transformative.
When we release the physical and emotional clutter weighing us down, we create a sanctuary for clarity, inner peace and opportunity.
By intentionally choosing what stays in our lives, we make space for what truly lights us up, our passions, our dreams, and the new opportunities that 2026 is waiting to deliver.

Every year around this time, I pause and give myself the space to reflect on my life. It’s a chance to reconnect with where I am, where I want to be, and to ensure I’m staying aligned with what truly matters to me.
I’ve created a set of rituals that help me prepare for the year ahead, setting intentions and making plans that feel both purposeful and empowering.
In short, this is my strategy:
#1. Choose one word for the year
My ONE word becomes like a personal headline for my year, a guiding star that helps me stay aligned with my goals and values. It’s a simple yet powerful practice that keeps me grounded and focused. Every time I feel uncertain or overwhelmed, I return to this word for clarity and direction. If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend it; it’s amazing how much impact a single word can have on shaping your year.
This year, my word has been detachment (letting go). Detachment from what no longer fuels my soul. A year of shedding old identities and reorganizing how I spend my time. Letting go of old ways of working that drained my energy. And a recalibration of what is mine to carry and what's not. Making space for what feels true, alive, and supportive now.
Some of the things I detached from this year, just to name a few, was trying to solve family conflicts I wasn't apart of and put myself in the middle, making funny faces during a hard workout...haha...that was not an easy one. And as many of you know I also let go of my career as a photography teacher. (that was also extremely hard). But I did it!
I always print or write my ONE word and place it on my vision board. That helps me stay connected to the meaning of the word. It's super helpful to SEE it every day.
I haven't decided yet what my 2026 word will be, but I'm leaning toward "experimenting". It fits my current situation of changing career direction and I wish to give myself permission to experiment as much as possible to find my true path forward. If that makes sense?

#2. Make a simple 3-goal plan
With over 30 years of experience as a business owner, I’ve learned an important truth: I often overestimate what I can achieve in a week but underestimate what I can accomplish in a year. Real progress comes from consistent, focused effort, and daily patience, good things truly takes time. The best way to plan a new year successfully is always to KNOW exactly what your main focus areas are. Too many goals and you will struggle. So keep it simple.
- Choose 3 main goals (not 30)
- Break them into monthly milestones
- Identify the first action step for each goal
- Schedule each action step (not in your calendar - not gonna happen)
- Set up daily rules to protect your system (fx. 3 hours of deep meaningful goal work - without interruptions)
By breaking big goals into small, daily action steps, we can make meaningful progress and achieve what really matters. If you’re looking for support in this process, I recommend checking out my course Optimize Your Creative Life.
Pro tip: The way I reach my goals are to dedicate my morning hours to my project. Before I do anything else, I'll be razer focused on my project behind a closed door with a "do not disturb" sign. I don't check emails, I don't answer the phone, I don't talk to anyone. I work fully focused for about 2-3 hours with a short coffee break. Knowing that my most important task is done first thing in the day helps me keep momentum and stay motivated.

#3. Declutter & Detox
January is my favorite month to reset and realign. During this time, I clear out my physical space, refresh my diet, and optimize my daily routines.
I go through my closet and get rid of clothes that no longer fit, or feels outdated. I look at my habits, and decide what needs to change. I clear my desk drawers, my computer, and photo folders. I stack my office with new fresh note books and inspiring books I want to read in the new year. And of course I also make a vision board to manifest my dreams and goals for the new year.
When you choose to declutter, you’re not just organizing, you’re intentionally creating space and clarity for the things that truly matter. Think of it as preparing the soil for something new to grow.
By letting go of the old stuff, you’re making room for fresh opportunities and exciting possibilities to enter your life. The energy of “letting go” is transformative, it sets the stage for a clean slate and a lighter heart.
Clutter can feel overwhelming and chaotic, often amplifying feelings of stress and unease. When you declutter, you bring a sense of order and tranquility to your surroundings, which naturally calms the mind and body. Clearing away can also increase your confidence and provide a fresh sense of control over your life. Once you begin decluttering and detoxing, you’ll be amazed by the shift in your overall sense of peace and empowerment.

Inspiration for what you can declutter & detox:
Declutter your physical space
• clothes that no longer feel like you
• drawers filled with “just in case” items
• unfinished projects that carry guilt
• papers, notes, and lists from an old season
• beauty products you never reach for
• kitchen items you don't use
• digital clutter, photos, files, downloads
• your workspace, especially what distracts you
Detox your time
• commitments that feel heavy before you even show up
• social obligations made from habit, not desire
• rushed mornings and packed transitions
• overbooking weekends
• saying yes too quickly
• multitasking that scatters your energy
• constant availability
Declutter your mind
• constant news intake
• expectations you place on yourself
• old narratives about who you should be by now
• comparison spirals
• perfectionism (done is better than perfect)
• the need to have everything figured out
Detox your nervous system
• overconsuming and endless scrolling
• not getting enough rest + sleep
• pushing through fatigue
• background noise that never turns off
• ignoring your body’s signals
Declutter relationships and boundaries
• conversations that drain you
• giving emotional support without receiving it back
• roles you have outgrown
• people pleasing (you don't owe anyone anything)
• over-explaining your choices
• staying silent when something feels off (you are allowed to speak up)
Declutter your inner world
• resentment you keep carrying
• harsh self-criticism that puts you down
• guilt for resting and taking breaks
• attachment and expectations to outcomes and other people
• fear of disappointing others (it's actually okay to disappoint people sometimes because your wellbeing comes first)
Make space for
• rest without justification
• slower and more mindful days
• movement, walks, stretching & meditation
• self-nourishment that feels calming and energizing
• creative playfullness without an agenda
• listening inward to your body and intuition
• learning something new & reading
You might not do all of this. You are not meant to. It's just a list of inspiration.
Remember, even one small release creates space. And space is where clarity, joy, and new life begin.

#4. Make a Vision Board
The purpose of making a vision board is not only to motivate yourself. It's also a way to prompt your subconscious mind. It is about mindfully choosing what you want your eyes to rest on.
We are quietly shaped by what we see every day. What lives in front of our eyes gently directs the mind. And what the mind focuses on is where our energy flows.
A vision board becomes a visual anchor. A reminder of what matters. Of how you want to feel. Of the life you are slowly calling in and your energy begins to align with what you are inviting. This is not magic. It is awareness. And awareness changes everything.

I like to make my vision board slowly over a few days. I collect images that speak to me, photos from Pinterest or Instagram, and pages cut from magazines. I choose photos based on what makes me FEEL excited, inspired and happy. I try not to think too much about what is realistic. THIS is about inviting your DREAMS to bloom.
I print the images, add a few meaningful quotes, and also add my one word for the year. Then I place everything on a cork board and move things around until it looks good. I hang it in my office where I see it every day. Not as a reminder to do more, but as a gentle guide for my focus.
That's it. That's my 4-step system for preparing for the new year.
Simple. Intentional. Supportive.
Last but not least; remember to be patient when becoming someone you haven't been before.

So, take a deep breath, dive in, and remind yourself that you are capable of amazing transformation. The best version of you is waiting just on the other side. You’ve got this! 🌟
